Excursions

Excursions if you want to see more than the pool and the beach

Nature:

Freshwater lake "Lac StCassien"

If you want to experience a turquoise lake with fresh-water as a contrast to the salty sea, you should go to Lac StCassien. Take the A8 direction Marseille, and get off at Exit 39 Fayence. Follow signs for Montauroux and Lac de St Cassien. After about 15 min drive you will see the lake. There are plenty of places around the lake to rent paddelboats and kayaks. "OKWIDE" (located after the bridge on the right hand side), has an inflatable water-park where kids and grownups can enjoy themself for 5EUR/30 min. On the way to Lac StCassien, there's a traditional fruit&vegetables-stand. Don't miss out to buy your fruity snack here! www.tripadvisor.com

Le Point d'Aguille /Theoule sur Mer

Take a drive along the boardwalk of Cannes and pass by Mandelieu. The last little village before the Esterel-mountains is Theoule Sur Mer. Don't miss the secret beach of "Point d'Aguille" - a hidden gem of the riviera! After a hike for about 20 min, you will reach a hidden cobble-stone beach, with impressive rocks (you can even swim through a cave here). The brave ones jumps from the rocks.... www.tripadvisor.com

There's also a lovely beach-restaurant, "Marco Polo" situated at the beach. Not as crowded as in JuanLesPins, and with great food.

Plage Mala /Cap d'Ail

If you go by train or car to Cap d'Ail, you will find the lovely "Plage Mala". It's a small beach with a few beachrestaurants. Difficult to find parking, but well worth a try. If you prefer a nice walk, the "Mala beach Coastal Walk" is a very scenic walk along the coastline with amazing views of the coast and the crystal clear sea. The walk will take you all the way to Monaco. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and good walking shoes. www.tripadvisor.com

Cap d'Antibes:

If you go to plage La Garoupe on the east coast of Cap d'Antibes, you'll find the start of a coastal hike along the coast of Cap d'Antibes. The walk takes about 1,5 hours. www.tripadvisor.com

Hiking-tours:

If you want to go hikning, there are lots of well-marked tours at the riviera. You can google to find your way to them. One trip we have done is the "Chemin du Paradis" that starts at Bar-Sur-Loup and goes all the way up to the medieval village of Gourdon. The walk takes about 3,5 hours. Bring lots of water, good shoes and a walking-stick since the path is quite steep. https://randoxygene.departement06.fr

Esterel-mountains:

Be prepared for a curvy tour around the magnificent Esterel mountains. Pass by lovely villages of Mandelieu, Theoule Sur Mer and Agay before reaching Fréjus. The bay of Agay is perfect for renting kayaks and SUP (StandUpPaddleboard) with it's calm water and clear blue turqouise water. You will see plenty of fishes here as well if you choose to snorkel or go by SUP. www.tripadvisor.com

Iles St Marguerite and Iles Honorat /JuanLesPins

The two islands outside JuanLesPins and Cannes is well worth a day-trip. Take the boat from JLP (or rent a boat if you have a license), and spend a day in paradise. The water between the islands is turquoise. Walkways on the island leads to beaches. Bring your own picnic! www.tripadvisor.com

Culture:

Villa&Jardin Ephrussi de Rotschild / St Jean Cap Ferrat

This fabulous pink little castle with it's lovely garden is a must if you want to experience the former fancy Riviera. The garden is divided into different types of garden, and is wonderful to visit for whole family. Don't miss the fountains which plays to classical music. www.tripadvisor.com

Fondation Maeght /St Paul de Vence

A beautiful museum on the hillside of the arty-village of St Paul de Vence. Here you will find an excuisite collection of modern art and sculptures, set in a beautiful building. Take a stroll in the park and admire the statues by Miró, Calder, Moore.

The village of St Paul de Vence is a beautiful small medieval village where artists have gathered. Stroll along the cobblestone streets and check out all the lovely art-galleries.

Biot

The village of glass - Biot is famous for its hand-blown glass. Here you will also find the lovely modern museum of Fernand Legèr.
